Obey Your Parents

Obey Your Parents In the Lord

Obey Your Parents

As children, our parents are our first pastors, and obeying them is crucial. Disobedience to parents is a sign of the last days, and even children of Christian parents are being attacked by this spirit of rebellion. However, God’s Word encourages children to obey and honor their parents, promising a long and fulfilling life as a result (Ephesians 6:1-3, Deuteronomy 27:16).

As children, we belong to the Lord, and obeying our parents is part of obeying God’s laws. Disobedience leads to shame, regret, and a sorrowful future (Proverbs 28:7, Proverbs 17:2). Our parents set standards and teach us to obey God’s laws and societal rules, and we must recognize their authority (Judges 17:6, Proverbs 30:12).

God has instituted human authority to set rules and standards for our good, and obeying them is essential (Romans 13:1-7, 1 Peter 2:13-17). Disobedience to authorities, including parents, makes us accountable to no one and puts us at odds with God (Colossians 3:20).

Wise children obey the law, honor their parents, and accept discipline, which leads to happiness and a fulfilling life (Proverbs 29:18, Proverbs 9:8). Foolish children reject discipline, despise wisdom, and suffer the consequences (Proverbs 12:1, Proverbs 13:1).

Parents, train your children in the way of the Lord, and they will not depart from it (Proverbs 22:6). May God touch the hearts of rebellious children, restore their relationships with their parents, and grant wisdom to obey and honor them.

We love God by obeying Him. Jesus says that if you love Him, you will keep His commands, “If anyone loves Me, he will keep My word; and My Father will love him, and We will come to him and make Our home with him. He who does not love Me does not keep My words; and the word which you hear is not Mine but the Father’s who sent Me” (John 14:23-24). Jesus asks religious people, “Why do you call me Lord, Lord, and do not what I say.” (Lk. 6:46). We do not love God only in our mind and emotions. We love God by the who we obey and what we DO.

it is right because it shows that you are wise. When you scoff at your parents and refuse to obey them, you prove to everyone that you are not wise, “A scoffer does not love one who corrects him, nor will he go to the wise.” (15:12). Solomon adds, “The ear that hears the rebukes of life will abide among the wise. He who disdains instruction despises his own soul. But he who heeds rebuke gets understanding. The fear of the Lord is the instruction of wisdom, and before honor is humility.” (Prov. 15:31-33).

We must never forget that even the Lord Jesus grew in wisdom. We also know that He submitted to his parents (Luke 2;51). They were like almost every parent. They were young. They were inexperienced. They did not have the seasoning of age. They were like all young parents.
